Stewart Wu became Vice President of Cortina Systems, Inc. (Cortina) Digital Home business unit following the acquisition of Storm Semiconductor, Inc. by Cortina in July 2008. Stewart founded Storm in December 2002 with the vision of revolutionizing the home networking infrastructure with an initial focus to address the networking and storage space together. This initiative brought to market in 2005 the first dual-core embedded network processor in its space, which is now being widely accepted and designed into many consumer and Small Medium Business (SMB)- end products.

Prior to founding Storm Semiconductor, Stewart was the General Manager for the SMB/SOHO Networking Business Unit at Broadcom, where he managed $120-$150M annual revenue with P&L responsibility. Stewart also helped spearhead most of the Broadcom activities in the greater China area, including setting up a local R&D and support center and ramping up its China revenue from tens of millions to a few hundred million before he left in 2002. Before joining Broadcom, Stewart was the Chairman, Founder, President, and CEO of Altima Communications, Inc., which was acquired by Broadcom in July 2000, when it reached $40M+ annual revenue within three years. Altima was formed in July of 1997, focusing on the SOHO/SMB area with a wide variety of networking ICs including PHYs (Physical Layer), Switches, and Repeaters.

Prior to founding Altima, Stewart spent many years designing the baseband communication ICs, including the multi-generation of the Read/Write Channel ICs at Chips & Technologies (acquired by Intel in 1997), and later at Cirrus Logic. He also spearheaded the networking department at Quality Semiconductors, Inc. (acquired by IDT in 1998) from 1994 to 1997.

Stewart has extensive EDA industry experience. Prior to obtaining his PhD degree, he spent many years with EDA firms that emphasized in silicon compilation. His was the brain work behind a few successful startups\x{2014} Anangram (acquired by Avanti in 1996) and CadMOS (acquired by Cadence in 2001) to name two.

Stewart has over 20 years of engineering and business management experience in Communication Systems and IC development. He also served on the board of directors at System General Corporation, a public company in Taiwan that focuses on innovative energy-saving power management IC products (acquired by Fairchild in 2007) and Senao International, the largest cell phone service company in Taiwan, until it was acquired by Chunghwa Telecom, CHT, in 2006. Stewart also worked as an Executive Partner at Crimson Ventures in Palo Alto, CA helping to shape its high tech strategy.

Stewart earned his MSEE and PhD degrees from University of Washington at Seattle and a BSEE from National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan. Stewart is listed as distinguished alumni for both Universities. He frequently speaks at Universities and in the local Silicon Valley Chinese community.
