RPR & ATM Product Family:

ATM devices

The Cortina high performance and scalable traffic management architecture can aggregate and manage packet, ATM, and MPLS traffic on any port, at OC-48 wire speed, enabling carriers to unify networks and simplify bandwidth provisioning, network management, and billing.

The Cortina device architecture allows any router or switch to aggregate and handle any mix of packet, MPLS, and ATM traffic, at speeds of up to 5 Gbps on the same line card. Other capabilities inlcude PWE3-ATM support using an external companion FPGA  to support encapsulation of ATM cells for transporting ATM traffic as MPLS packets.

The Cortina ATM SAR devices are commonly used in ATM line cards as illustrated in the figure 1 below.

Table 1 illustrates the details of the Cortina ATM SAR devices. Each switch has a built in AAL5 SAR and can aggregate, switch, and traffic manage any traffic type (IP, MPLS, or ATM) on any port.
