SONET/SDH Product Family:

Channelized SONET/SDH

While much of the networking equipment being built today is packet based rather than circuit based, SONET/SDH (a circuit-based switching technology) are still widely used technologies and indeed SONET/SDH transport networks underlie the majority of packet networks. Cortina has a variety of products which enable equipment manufacturers to provide support for, and connection to such legacy SONET/SDH networks.

Cortina provides other SDH/SONET mapping solutions including GFP, ATM, GE, 10GE LAN, and 10GE WAN. For improved bandwidth utilization, we also support Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS,) which allows automatic adjustment to the available line bandwidth. SeeTable 2 for a list of Cortina Channelized SONET/SDH and products that support such features.

The Cortina bandwidth aggregation and channelization solutions provide performance monitoring and networking support for various client signals such as OTN (G.709), SONET/SDH, and 10GE. The devices feature configurable standards compliant interfaces.

An example aggregation solution is shown in figure 1 below using the IXF19301. In this example, client data is aggregated to a 4xOC48 line rate.
