Sunnyvale, Calif., Cortina Systems, Inc. (Cortina™), a fast-growing leader in intelligent communication systems, hosted last week’s meeting of the Full Service Access Network (FSAN), a consortium of more than 80 of the world’s largest telecommunications service providers, testing labs and equipment manufacturers. The meeting, held in San Francisco, California February 2-5, 2010, focused mainly on the transmission convergence and management specifications of XG-PON (10 Gigabit-capable PON) systems, a new family of access solutions that will meet the continuously growing demand of bandwidth per customer. The complete set of specifications is expected to be finished in mid-2010.
“The number of fiber-based access subscribers is expected to grow dramatically worldwide over the next decade with service providers deploying passive optical networks to offer more revenue-generating services, such as HD and 3D IPTV, video on demand, VoIP, online gaming, and ultra-broadband Internet access,” said Paolo Solina, Chair of the FSAN Optical Access Network Working Group. “Cortina’s sponsorship of the FSAN meeting enables an opportunity for the industry leaders to collaborate and work together to achieve significant progress on the development of FSAN next generation access solutions.”
“Cortina has always worked closely with worldwide carriers to understand their challenges in managing multi service access networks,” said Dr. Zino Chair, vice president, marketing at Cortina. “Cortina shares FSAN’s goal of a truly broadband fiber access network and was pleased to host the February 2010 FSAN quarterly meeting.”
