02/25/2008 Cortina Systems: "CORTINA ANNOUNCES THE INDUSTRY’S FIRST OC768C POS FRAMER MAPPER DEVICE"

CS1999 Enables the Next Generation Router and Switch Line Cards with a Cost Effective, Single Chip Solution

Sunnyvale, Calif., February 25, 2008 Cortina Systems® (Cortina), a leading supplier of intelligent communication solutions, today announced the industry’s first OC768c POS framer mapper device, CS1999.  Cortina, already a market leader in 10G and 2.5G SONET framer mapper devices, extends its product portfolio with the CS1999. With the announcement of the CS1999, Cortina is the only semiconductor vendor that has SONET/SDH framer solutions available for all SONET/SDH data rates.   With the network cores being upgraded from 10G (OC192c) to 40G (OC768c), the core routers and switches require an optimal, silicon solution to terminate the SONET/SDH framing on their next generation 40G SONET line cards. Cortina’s CS1999 is designed primarily for such carrier class core routing and switching systems, by offering the lowest power and real estate ratings in the industry. CS1999 implements the Bellcore standard compliant, industry interoperable SONET framer and Packet mapper, the data path that guarantees always line rate performance irrespective of the packet sizes, and industry standard interfaces to interconnect with other components on the line card.  CS1999 arrives at the right time when the industry is looking to upgrade their packet based SONET backbones from 10G to 40G to face the next generation bandwidth hungry applications, such as video,” said Balakumar Velmurugan, product line manager at Cortina Systems.    The CS1999 supports STS-768 rate, SERDES based SFI5 Interface specified by the OpticalInterconnect Forum (OIF) to connect directly with 40G optical modules. The CS1999 OC-768c framer generates and terminates SONET/SDH section, line and path overhead with a single 40G mapper that maps POS packets over SONET/SDH.  It has a highly versatile and independent module used to generate and monitor packets at line rate speeds for diagnostic purposes. With system interface 40G Interlaken, supporting multiple SERDES rates the CS1999 provides up to 48Gbps system interface bandwidth and flow control to the packet processor or NPU.  Interlaken is an open industry standard created by Cortina and Cisco for inter-component connectivity.  CS1999 is currently sampling to multiple customers.
